My first introduction to the Doberman was in 1961 with the acquisition of a red male I named Johnny Yuma. In 1962 I added to my Doberman family and had my first litter in 1963 from my first female who would later become a champion named, Zigeuner's Fiesta. From this first litter were whelped two who would become the first Marienburg Champions, Dorian and Gretchen. I acquired a lovely female puppy in the summer of 1963. I named her Sultana von Marienburg. Little did I dream that within three years she would break the existing record for Dobermans by winning 37 all-breed Best-in-Shows. She was the number one Doberman during the years 1966 and 1967 and a two time DPCA Best of Breed winner. Although not prolific, her last puppy became the top producer, Ch. Marienburg's Only One.  "Only" was the dam of multiple Best-in-Show winners including the fabulous Ch. Marienburg's Mary Hartman, who broke Sultana's existing record by winning 44 all-breed Best-in-Shows. Mary Hartman was also Top Dog of all-breeds in 1978, a two time DPCA Best of Breed winner (one of which was from the Veterans Class), and a Westminster Working Group winner. She was sired by the incredible, Ch. Marienburg Sun Hawk. Sun Hawk sired 85 American Champions, was number one Doberman during 1975 and 1976, and was a two time DPCA Best of Breed winner.

The loss of Sun Hawk in 1982 was a crushing blow. There was no frozen semen. In 1985 on a trip to Holland, I acquired a closely linebred black male puppy from the renowned Franckenhorst Kennels. My timing was just right as this puppy, Dexter, was from what would become the famous 'D' litter of the 80's. Over the next few years my Dobermans flourished with this new blood. Good health and great conformation became apparent with Dexter sons like Am/Braz Ch. Marienburg's Morocco, an all-breed Best-in-Show and Top 20 Winner, Ch. Marienburg's Blackstone, the DPCA Grand Prize Futurity winner, Ch. Bruda Teller of Tales, multi-Best-in-Show winner and Westminster Best of Breed winner, and Ch. Marienburg's Captive Heart, Best Opposite Sex at DPCA under Peggy Adamson. Dexter sired 30 American Champions and died at 12+ years in 1997.

My friend, Sandra Hunter, bred to Dexter in 1988, producing the red dog, Ch. Bruda Teller of Tales. Sandra and I entered into a co-ownership of Teller when he was still a puppy. He finished his championship before he was a year of age and was Best of Breed at Westminster at 16 months old. He went on to be the Number One Doberman of 1992 and won multiple Groups, Specialties, and Best in Shows. Teller sired 19 American Champions, including Ch. Aquarius Damien of Ravenswood, winner of a DPCA Best of Breed and more than  50 Best in Shows.  Teller also sired two red bitches, Ch. Marienburg's Coral Pendant, and my top producing, Ch. Marienburg's Love Potion.  At the 1997 DPCA National Specialty,  I saw a spectacular male from Argentina named Nello's Lex Luthor.  I asked to see his pedigree and discovered his bloodline went back to American Dobermans who had been exported to South America.  Within 6 generations, my famous sire, Ch. Marienburg Sun Hawk, appeared13 times.  Several of Sun Hawk's sons and grandsons had been exported to Argentina, mainly in the late 70's and early 80's. Here was the dog who would be the perfect cross with my, now predominantly, European lines and who would take my dogs back into Sun Hawk. The first one we bred to Luthor was Coral Pendant. I was disappointed when "Penny" had three females but only one male, as I wanted a male to keep. With no other choices I kept the single male and named him Marienburg's Repo Man. "RP" as he was called, exceeded everything I could have wished for.  He retired from the show ring with a DPCA Best of Breed, 55 All Breed Best In Shows, was the Number 1 Working Dog in 2002, and has sired over 45 champions.

We were unsuccessful in our attempts to breed "Penny" to Luthor again. Love Potion was bred to Luthor as well and gave me a wonderful litter.   I also bred my last Dexter daughter, Marienburg Silhouette, to Luthor which produced Ch. Marienburg's Born To Run, who I co-own. In early 2001
I moved back to the Bitterroot Valley of Montana from the central California coast. Breeding and showing is still our main preoccupation. I know there will be more wonderful Dobermans to come, and perhaps, new blood to be added to the mix.
